The sculptures of the ROU Materiaal come from the search for Italian secular trees that have been cut because they are sick or dead on their feet; the woods are treated in such a way as to combine the use of techniques that enhance the veins or natural imperfections with others that give a more contemporary consistency, such as fire, sand, gilding and resins.

Resins and acrylics are the main medium to which stucco and cement are added over time. The worked surfaces of ROU Materiaal evoke the stones.

The link between a "primitive" material world and the search for contemporary shapes and textures represent the leitmotif of ROU Materiaal's poetics.
